Peter Jackson talks the Hobbit! hey guys, thanks for tuning back into clevver movies, Im your host tatiana carrier with the latest on the highly anticipated HOBBIT! . In the latest issue of Total film, director Peter jackson shares that The Hobbit and unexpeted journey had some UNEXPECTED challenges! . he said, “The Hobbit is very much a children’s book and The Lord of the Rings is something else; it’s not really aimed at children at all. I realized the characters of the dwarves are the difference. Their energy and disdain of anything politically correct brings a new kind of spirit to it. And that’s why I thought, OK, this could be fun!” . He also went on to speak about the challenges of making sure each of the 13 dwarfs had their own distinct characteristics….he said, “That was something I worried about. I imagined 13 guys with long hair and beards and I thought, ‘How are we ever going to know which dwarf is which? It’s an ensemble from hell really. I thought nine members of the Fellowship was a problem; but here, with Bilbo and Gandalf, we’ve got 15. It’s working out fine though. The dwarves give it a kind of childish, comedic quality that gives us a very different tone from The Lord of the Rings.” . And chiming in to the interview was his better half and writing parnter, Fran walsh…she added that the 2nd hobbit movie will be primarily focused with what the article describes as “war, madness and dragon rage.” She said “We always saw The Hobbit more in the golden light of a fairytale. It’s more playful. But by the time you get to the end, Tolkien is writing himself into that place where he can begin that epic journey of writing LOTR, which took, as he put it, his life’s blood. All those heavier, darker themes which are so prevalent in the later trilogy start to come into play.” . Director Michel Hazanavicius, 44, fantasized about making a silent film for many years, both for the image-driven nature of the format and because many of his favorite filmmakers emerged in that era. 2. Hazanavicius studied many silent films to find the right technique in order to make the story comprehensible without the use of too many title cards. 3. The dog actor in the film, Uggy, won the Palm Dog Award for best canine at the Cannes Film Festival in France. The honor can be awarded to live or animated dogs or a group of dogs in films presented at the festival. (The name of the award is a pun on the Palme d’Or, the festival’s highest honor). ‘Up”s Dug is a previous winner. 4. The stars of the film, Berenice Bejo and Jean Dujardin, had to learn to act in an 80-year-old style that has not really been used since the 1920s, and they both had to learn to tap-dance at a professional level for the film. 5. The Weinstein Company’s publicity strategy of plugging ‘The Artist’ into every film festival and letting word-of-mouth seems to be working.
