For Months now there has been speculation that “Mad Max 4″ might end up getting a post-production 3D upgrade a la “Clash of the Titans,” “Alice In Wonderland” and more recently “The Last Airbender.” Not much of a surprise, since these days, retrofitting a film with 3D in post has unfortunately become common place in Hollywood, as the scramble to output movies with a 3D stamp has risen to reach the demand. Luckily though, it seems the 4th installment of “Mad Max” will dodge the post production upgrade, with news that Oscar-winning director George Miller is reportedly developing new 3D camera tech in order to shoot MAX in native 3D. Reports are that the film will be shot entirely using 3D rigs and cameras being specially developed by Miller himself. Great news since the 3D post process has been criticized for diminishing the quality and colors of filmed footage, as well as creating an excuse to bump up ticket prices for the sought after yet non-deliverable larger than life effects. And while the ticket prices will probably remain the same, it’ll be nice to finally be getting what we’re paying for!
